Wave action on inclined sandstone cliffs on the south Shetland coast near Sumburgh Head - the bedrock in this is the Bressay Flagstone Formation - sandstone and argillaceous rocks which are interbedded. The sedimentary bedrock formed approximately 359 to 393 million years ago in the Devonian Period.
