He received his early and of the Masonic order. He married, June 24,1884, Miss Lydia A. Irons; they have one son,Stanley N. B. SPRAGUE. education in the public schools and in the Englishand Classical schools of Providence. He was earlyattracted to musical studies and pursued them inProvidence, Boston and New York, and under lead-ing masters in England and Germany, acquiring athorough knowledge of the principles of both vocaland instrumental harmony. Since 1881 he hastaught the pianoforte, organ, the cultivation of thevoice and musical theory in Providence, having alarge clientage. As a composer, Mr. Sprague hasproduced four complete operas, two of which havebeen performed, about fifty songs, some of whichhave been very popular, a large amount of churchmusic, and many pieces for violin, piano andorchestra. He is the organist and director ofmusic at Grace Episcopal Church, Providence, con-ductor of the Narragansett Choral Society ofPeacedale, R. I., President of the Rhode IslandMusic Teachers Association, also a member of theexecutive committee and organist and pianist ofthe Arion Club, the leading musica
