FRUIT-GROWER CO., ST. JOSEPH, MO. 13 properly united. After pressing the two pieces to-gether, it will be necessary to wrap the graft at thepoint of union with No. 18 or 20 cotton knittingthread. Lay the thread on the wood near the end ofthe cut, wind two or three times around at this place,at the same time pressing the parts tightly togetherwith thumb and finger; next work the thread up tothe other end of the cut by winding it two or threetimes around the graft during the distance, then twoor three times around the other end of the cut as inthe beginning and fasten the end of the thread bydrawing it down in the cut and, by a sharp jerk,break it off. This completes the process. The fin-ished graft should be from seven to nine inches long.(Fig. 4d.) The old way was
