A winter view of the ruins of Norham Castle. Norham Castle one of the most important of the Border castles and was built in 1121 by the Bishops of Durham a long and turbulent history saw many famous visitors and it s place in history though little known is significant in the Wars and Peace of the Scottish Border. Visitors have included King Edward I King David of Scotland Robert the Bruce Turner Beatrix Potter Field Marshal Montogomery Famous for it's part in the Scottish Wars of Independence it lost much of it's importance as a stronghold when it fell to James IV of Scotland just before the Battle of Flodden in 1513
