High standards of integrity and professionalism are vital to the success of any effective policing strategy The Boston Police Departments Bureau of Internal Investigations is charged with promoting these high standards throughout the Department via its Internal Affairs Division, Auditing and Review Division, and the Anti-Corruption Division. Internal Affairs Division The Internal Affairs Division personnel investigate all allegedviolations of Department Rules and Procedures, recommend anynecessary changes to these regulations, and monitor officers via theEarly Intervention System. Since 1992, the Department hassuccessfully expanded this system used to identify and/or intervene insituations affecting the quality of potentially troubled officerspersonal and work lives. In 1992, EIS identified 78 individuals whohad received three or more complaints within a two-year period. In1997 the same criteria were used to identify just six at-risk officers.
