Con- siderable saving of coal has already been made on account of the mild weather. Christmas stock is in fine sliape, although indications are that it will be short in quantity. The many parties for young folks home for the holidays and other like events have made for somewhat bettor business the last week or two. A considerable quan- tity of artificial material is being used locally. Various Notes. The Minneapolis Florists' Club held a well attended meeting December 7. A resolution was introduced, which will be voted on at the January meeting, dis- banding this club and uniting with the state association. This seemed to meet favor with a large number of the mem- bers. The effect would be to make one large club with much more i)uwer than two smaller ones. The fifty-fourth annual meeting of the Minnesota State Horticultural Socictv was held at the store of the L. S. Donald- son Minneapolis, December 7 to 10. A small fruit and vegetalflc show and an excellent program were tlie features of the meeting. Retween l.'iO and 300 were in regular attendance. The officers for the coining year were elected as fol- lows: President, C. F. Smith, Minne- apolis; secretarv, R. S. Mackintosh. St. Paul. F. C. Schletz, St. Paul, and D. C. Webster, La Crescent, were elected mem- bers of the executive committee. The Minnesota State Horticultural Society is one of the largest in the
