West Berlin branch built in Brutalism style by architect Werner Düttmann in 1960 is used for events, exhibitions and studio spaces for artists The building is a listed monument and was founded in West Berlin in competition with the East Berlin German Academy of Arts. The West and East branches merged in 1993 and the historic location on Pariser Platz was chosen as the Academy 's headquarters.
