Members of the 101st Airborne Division Honor Guard carry a casket containing the remains of a member of the 3rd Battalion, 502nd Infantry, 101st Airborne Division, out of a 437th Military Airlift Wing C-14B Starlifter aircraft. On December 12, 1985, 248 soldiers of the 3rd Battalion were killed in a plane crash at Gander Airport, Newfoundland, Canada. They were returning to the United States after participating in peacekeeping duty with the Mulinational Force and Observers in the Sinai Desert.
