Grey squirrel feeding on Dartmoor, Devon
The Grey Squirrel, (Sciurus carolinensis), is a scatter hoarder, it hoards food in numerous small caches. It has been estimated that each Squirrel makes several thousand caches each season, they have a very accurate spatial memory for the locations of these caches. Grey Squirrels do not hibernate. They inhabit larg areas of mature, dense woodland.
