The tomb of Petosiris (late 4th century ) is at the Tune al-Gebel cemetery at Hermopolis. Workers thrash corn with sticks.
The tomb of Petosiris dates to the late 4th century and is at the Tune (also Tuna) al-Gebel, the cemetery at Hermopolis. Petosiris was the high priest of Thoth, the ibis-headed god of wisdom, who was also worshiped by the ancient Egyptians as the god of writing. This relief is from the east wall and shows workers thrashing corn with sticks. The figure at right is a reaper in a cornfield, He is drinking from a type of flask and holds his sickle under his arm. Significant is the incorporation of both Egyptian and Greek customs into the scene - reflective of the period.
