The seeds fromwhich the plants were raised were gathered bythe Koslov Expedition sent by the RussianiGovernment to Central Asia. Other rare Meconopsis in Messrs. Bees nursery-are the tall-flowered M. grandis, the variable , with flowers shading from deep piu-pleto palest lilac; and seedlings of the rare The last-mentioned is considered by those-persons who have seen it on its native rocks,to be the most beautiful of all Himalayanplants. Beesnursery at Neston, and although the flower is4 inches across, the plant itself has more theappearance of an alpine plant. The soft, hairyleaves are lanceolate, entire, and so far have notexceeded a maximum length of 12 inches. Theflowers, each borne on a stout peduncle, 12 to14 inches in length, are of a delicate, soft yeUowcolour, and rise in succession from the thick tuftof leaves, different from other Eastern membersof the genus, so that it is expected to provea ^perennial plant; and its present habit andappearance almost confirm this belief. only planted one specimen out-of-doors lastwinter, and curiously enough this plant flowered,while the others, carefully tended in pots underglass, failed to do so.
