Interior view of Basilica of Sainte Anne de Beaupre Basilica of Sainte Anne de Beaupre is a basilica set along the Saint Lawrence River east of Quebec City The basilica was initially a shrine to honor Saint Anne It was built for reasons one to provide a place of worship for new settlers and two to house a statue of St Anne The church is known for its miracles of healing sick people Because of it s popularity the basilica has been enlarged several times to accommodate all of its pilgrims The first basilica was opened for worship in 1876 later destroyed by fire in March of 1922 and the present basilica built in 1926 Quebec City Quebec Canada
