In some secluded nook hes found—far from thevulgus of the Hill—pondering over some ancient volume, heavy with dust or mouldingan essay on some weighty subject. Wrestling with knotty problems is his delight—his recreation is to turn to books. Ryburn is one who finds relief from the tedium ofworldly cares, one who finds communion for his soul, in the solitary solace of friends whonever take offense when he has them shut-up—his books.
