Architecture. The sweeping arc of The Circus, in the City of Bath, one of a trio of elegant Georgian terraces curving into a circle of houses. England.

The Circus or King’s Circus as it was originally named is a beautiful and elegant architectural treasure in the Georgian heart of the City of Bath. Three terraces of houses, thirty all together, built of warm honey coloured Bath Stone are wrapped in a circle around a grassy green lawn, with a group of 200 year old trees to give shade in the middle. Three roads lead into the circle, so that as you enter The Circus you are confronted by the full magnificence of the architecture on the opposite side, and not just another road leading out. Begun in 1754 the Circus was designed by the architect John Wood the Elder. Sadly he died before the building was finished but his son John Wood the Younger continued the work and it was completed in 1768.
