Tournai / Doornik, Wallonia, Hainaut, Belgium: despite regular visits to Tournai with his owner, the master of a Dutch barge plying the River Scheldt, this playful dog getting a thorough drenching never lost his fascination for the powerful water jets spouting through the pavement in the Grand Place, the central square of this historic riverside town. Tournai (in French) or Doornik (in Dutch) is a cathedral city in western Belgium, near the French border. The vast Cathedral of Notre Dame, with five towers, dominates the historic centre. The Grand Place, a triangular square lined with bars and restaurants, is overlooked by the 12th century Belfry, with views over the city. The River Scheldt is spanned by a picturesque fortified bridge, the Pont des Trous, which was built in 1290 and was tested in battle many times.
