It loses its pro-perties as an insecticide, however, when exposed, and must, conse-quently, be applied frequently. Finely powdered tobacco proves to be almost equally effective withbuhach, and when obtainable is to be preferred because of its greatercheapness. Train oil has also been tried, and has proved useful. It does notkill the flies as does the buhach, but is more lasting than either buhachor tobacco dust. It has the further advantage in that it can be api)liedto the legs, thus driving away the common flies which attack has been applied by soaking a piece of cloth with it, and then giv-ing the parts attacked a thorough rubbing with the oiled cloth.
