Precancerous skin lesion on the temple of a 76-year-old woman. Histological examination revealed this to be a melanocytic intraepithelial neoplasia (MIN). A MIN, or melanoma in situ, results from an abnormal growth of the epithelial cells that form the epidermis (top skin layer). Such lesions can be surgically removed if it is thought they may turn cancerous.
