On Thursday the 5th July, to mark Armed Forces Week and to further demonstrate the close relationship between the Town and RAF Benson, the Town Council is delighted that RAF Benson will be exercising their Freedom of the Town. At , headed by the Central Band of the RAF, all four squadrons with their colours paraded and bayonets fixed, will march from Crowmarsh over Wallingford Bridge into the town. The centre of Wallingford will be closed to traffic whilst the march, with close to two hundred personnel, proceeds along the High Street, into the Market Place and around St Mary’s Street, St Leonard’s Square and St Martin’s Street. The parade will form up in the Market Place for inspection by the Mayor and the base commander Group Captain Richard Mason. The parade will then move off along the High Street to the Kinecroft. There will be a static display by a Puma helicopter together with the base fire engine and the RAF first response medical team on the Kinecroft and the band will be playing. This is an opportunity to see this impressive occasion and to show support, respect and gratitude for the role which the personnel at RAF Benson and the wider armed forces play in the defence of our country.
