View NW of Owain Glyndwr's Mount above the River Dee W of Glyndyfrdwy, Denbighshire, Wales, UK. A C12th Norman motte used by Owain Glyndwr in the early C15th as a defensive lookout for his moated manor house & buildings situated in the same field: they were destroyed in 1403, only traces of the square, water-filled ditch survive c 180m SE of the mound. Glyndwr took his name from this estate in the Dee valley, he declared himself Prince of Wales in 1400, led the Welsh against Henry IV & summoned his own Parliament at Machynlleth in 1404 before his revolt failed. In 1991 the mound was fenced off to prevent further erosion around the tree roots by stock & rabbits. Holes were refilled and the grass has grown back through the protective mesh.
