The only German Arado-196 A3 hydroplane left in the world on display in preserved condition. The small museum run mainly by volunteers holds a unique airoplane one of its kind in perfect condition in the world a German Arado-196 A3 hydroplane believed to be the only one left in the world on display in preserved condition at Bulgarian Museum of Aviation. The Aviation Museum in Krumovo just outside the city of Plovdiv was established in 1991, and possesses around 6800 items of which are 65 flying machines. The indoor exhibition contains more than 2400 photos covering different periods of Bulgarian aviation history. The Arado 196 A3 Akula” was built in 1937 by the Germans and delivered in Bulgaria in 1943 to fly mission against underwater and surface boats. The idea of the establishment of an aviation museum arose in 1919, to be preserved the history of the first aircrafts of Bulgaria. But the conclusion of the Peace Treaty made it imposable. A decision in 1931 was made to establish a collection at Bojurishte Airfield and open in 1934 and existed until the beginning of the World War 2. September 1991 with the efforts of enthusiasts, and help from members of the 25th air regiment, 22nd air regiment, 44th air regiment and the 19th air regiment the team of the National Museum of Military History todays museum was established. © Clifford Norton/Alamy Live News
