Iron ores, salt and sandstones . xide Fulton Report. Survey. Perry Prospect. One and a half miles northeast of theFertig just over the county line in Pocahontas county, is thePerry opening, 450 feet above the railroad track and a mileand a quarter distant. The ore has been opened in a largecut 70 feet wide and 15 to 25 feet deep, showing 50 feet ofore. The foot wall is the brownish Oriskany sandstonewhich dips 36 to 40 degrees in direction N 500 E., while onthe hill above the ore are limestone and flint fragments (seeplate VIII). The ore is very porous and almost steel gray in color, but weathers to a red soft ore on the surface. It is free fromsand and clay and appears to be of good quality. The boul-ders of ore are found especially abundant at a point 180 feetlower in a ravine indicating the possibility of a very large•ore body in this hill. The composition of the ore according to the Lehman,Fulton, and Survey analyses is given below:. WEST VIRGINIA GEOLOGICAL SURVEY. 2JI Lehman Fulton Report. Report. Survey. The Dan opening is located 1^/4 milesnortheast of the Perry and one and a half miles west of therailroad and 325 feet higher. A large open cut or trenchgives a section of the ore body. In some former prospectwork, four tunnels were driven in this trench to intersect theore body. The top tunnel is 15 feet above the second whichis 20 feet above the third, and the fourth is 45 feet lower. The two upper tunnels were about the level of the oreb>ody but were driven in the wrong direction. The two lowertunnels were made below the ore body in the foot wall. Thebottom tunnel was 380 feet long and runs in a N 300 and no ore appears in its walls. A consi
