Neither writer nii'iitions the other. Ginolin's prefare iK dated March 10, 1788, wliile the page devoted by Bonnaterre to the " Privilege du Uoi " bears date of May 10, 1788. Bonnaterre states that there liave been thirteen editions of Linnii'iis' Systema Natura'. Of these tho tiiirteenth istlio work of Gmelin. But there is no evidence that Bonna- terre had seen or used this thirteenth edition, or that tho latter had ap|iearcd when bis own work was published.
