Workers at Karl Wilhelm Gerhard's Fabrik in Hohr, Germany, are seen making sauerkraut jars. One of the workers, Johann Joseph Breidenn II, mentioned that his wages have decreased since the war, from around 20 marks per day to now averaging ten to twelve marks. The soldier in the picture is horse-shoer Allen A. Harris from Co. A, 107th Field Signal Battalion, 32nd Division. The district has a history of manufacturing earthenware, which has been both useful and decorative for centuries.
