Light micrograph showing an islet of Langerhans surrounded by exocrine acini. 1 micrometer semi-fine section of material embedded in plastic and stained with toluidine blue. The islet cells are lighter and are arranged in a chord pattern, rather than forming acini. The clear spaces between the cords are blood capillaries. In acini, the serous grains located in the vicinity of the central lumen stand out.
