A microwave dish stands ready to transmit video coverage of the Bering Bridge Expedition as the joint Soviet-American party arrives at the International Date Line. Organized to promote better relations between the United States and the USSR, the expedition encouraged natives of Alaska to visit relatives in the Soviet Union. Team members trekked 800 miles through the Soviet Union to the International Date Line and then continued on to a welcoming ceremony at Little Diomede.
