When the engage-ment closed the regiment stacked arms on the field, ColonelNeill informing the men that we must depend upon thebayonet until reheved or until he could get ammunition. Itwas our luck to bivouac in front of some wheat stacks, andsoon we were sleeping as unconcerned as if ensconced in afeather bed. It appears that at the opening of the fight General Lee,feeling unwell, called General Longstreet to temporary ser-vice near him, while he rode to the left with Jacksons column. MALVEKX HILL HOUSE. From the crest of this ridge, theground dropped off sharply some eighteen inches or two feet to alower terrace, forming a natural parapet and terre-plein capableof accommodating sixty guns massed.
