Prior to the Border Patrol’s (USBP) acquisition of this OH-6A, it flew for the Army in central Vietnam. B Troop 7/17 took control of it in Jun of 1970 and six months later, the OH-6 had flown over 2,400 hours-earning a Distinguished Flying Cross for actions and intelligence gathering. The USBP flew over a million hours with their fleet of 42 OH-6A’s before retiring them in a ceremony held at the El Paso Air Branch. The OH-6 fleet is credited with assisting in over million illegal apprehensions during its service life. Rich Hefferman
