After nine hours of very fatiguing riding ina hot sun we climbed up a long rocky ascent to Bethle- JOURNEY TO JERUSALEM. 129 hem, and found rest and food at a spot at a little dis-tance from the town, commanding a fine view ofthe Church of the Nativity, where we have encampedon several occasions : and the following day, thetwenty-third of March, we reached GROUP OF ARABS—HEBROX.
