Human placenta, light micrograph

Light micrograph showing a human full term placenta. On top is the chorionic plate from which large anchoring villi with large blood vessels arise. The space among these anchoring villi is occupied by the chorion frondosum, formed by numerous very small chorionic villi. The scale bar corresponds to 2 millimetres.
