Tower and chancel of Cwmyoy Medieval church, Monmouthshire, have been twisted in opposite directions by slippage of the loose sandstone hillside.

The tower and chancel of Cwmyoy church in the Welsh Marches have been twisted in opposite directions by the movement of a landslip of sandstone rubble. The Medieval builders chose an unstable site and the leaning tower had to be supported by vast buttresses. The C18th Methodist pioneer George Whitefield preached in the churchyard at the invitation of the vicar.
