Bering Strait, satellite image. North is at top. Clouds are white and grey, while some sea ice is present in the Arctic Ocean (across top). Alaska is at right, with Russia's Chukchi Peninsula at left. The Bering Strait (centre left) is 85 kilometres wide. To its north is the Chukchi Sea, and to its south is the Bering Sea. The water colours include algal blooms and river sediments. Image data obtained in 2010 by the Moderate-resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) instrument on NASA's Aqua satellite, part of the Earth Observing System (EOS).
