The above cut shows a special spring clamp electrode for the phorictreatment of varicocele. The drugs usually used with the varicocele phoricelectrode are hammemelis (witch hazel), thuja, iodide of potash solution,or adrenalin solution. The electrode is divided, with a block tin concaveterminal on each side. Cotton saturated with the drugs is applied to thescrotum with the varicocele enclosed, then the clamp electrode is appliedand tightened by the thumb-screw and connected to the battery, the otherpole connected to the back electrode, held in place by a strap about the body,as shown below.
