An Ottoman karabela, circa 1700 Sturdy single-edged blade with double-edged point, a pair of grooves on each side, at the base of each a stamped, pseudo-European inscription. Iron cross-guard with central lobe. Original dark wood grip plates, lightly broadened toward the top, each with three star-shaped chased brass discs. The blade somewhat patinated and pitted.
