The young Ulysses S. Grant, 1822 - 1885, at the Battle for Mexico City in September, 1847 during the Mexican-American War. Grant had a cannon hoisted into the belltower of a church and directed fire upon Mexican troops below. After an engraving of a work by German-born American artist Emanuel Leutze.
