Livingston, with whomhe had been acquainted in had made experiments insteamboating as early as 1798, whenhe was granted the exclusive privi-lege of navigating the Avaters of theStale by steam. Fulton was finallyincluded in the provisions of the in September, 1807, the Cler-mont, the iirst steamboat that navi-gated the Hudson, made a successfulvoyage from New York to Albany andback.
