The cere-brospinal [fluid Jis positive in from 60 to 80 per cent., and Plant is ofthe opinion that it will be found to be more often so with improvedtechnique. Nonne and Hauptmann, by using larger quantities ofserum, have established this. It seems to be less often positive than inparesis—which, in view of the opinion held concerning the identityof the two disorders is food for reflection regarding the local reactionof the brain and cord proper. There is a marked lymphocytosis of the fluid, which is usually foundin the early stages of the disorder, and is an index of the meningiticsyphilosis usually found.
