View from the International Space Station (ISS) of Hurricane Milton off the coast of Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula, on the 8th October 2024. At this stage Milton was a category 5 hurricane after a period of explosive intensification from a category 1 hurricane the previous day. The intensification was aided by very high sea surface temperatures (close to 31 degrees Celsius), high relative humidity and low wind sheer. Later on in the day on the 8th Milton was downgraded to a category 4 hurricane.
