Approaching the three 180 FRANK AND JESSE JAINIES. men in the rear, they raised their double-barrel shot-guns, and with an oath commanded them to hold uptheir hands and drop their pistols. Taken thus, at adisadvantage, the detectives complied, and droppedtheir belts of pistols in the road. James Youngerdismounted to secure them, while John remained onhorseback with a double-barrel gun covering a moment he lowered his gun. That moment. Theodoric Snuffers Residence. was fatal. Captain Lull drew a concealed Smith &Wesson revolver from his bosom, and fired. Theball took effect in John Youngers neck, severing theleft jugular vein. In the very agonies of death, ashe fell from his horse to die, John Younger raised apistol and fired, the ball taking effect in the left armand side of Captain Lull. Two more shots werefired, probably by James Younger, before Allen, or AFTER ©ADSHTLL. 181 rather Lull, fell. James Younger then commencedfirins: at Ed. B. Daniels. That oentlemanalso had aconcealed pistol, returned the fire and inflicted aslight flesh wound on the person of James his fate was sealed. A fatal bullet* crashedthrough the left side of the neck, and Daniels fell,and soon afterward expired. This tragedy excitedand alarmed the whole country.
