Flateyri is a beautiful village on a narrow strip of land at the edge of the sea in the Westfjords On the 27th of October in 1995 at 4 , a huge avalanche came crashing down the mountain called Skollahvilft which towers above the village of Flateyri. Monument was set up where the houses once stood. No houses were permitted to be built there again. Flateyri church where one of the local girls sang for us in Icelandic
