Fingerprint card of Rosa Parks (1913-2005), American civil rights activist taken after her arrest for refusing to obey segregation of white and black people on a bus. Her act of civil disobedience took place on 1 December 1955. Her subsequent arrest and trial led to the Montgomery Bus Boycott. By 1956, the segregation laws were repealed when a related case was heard by the US Supreme Court. Parks took part in a number of civil rights campaigns in the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s.
