Electromagnetism. The 'Giant Electromagnet' made by Michael Faraday in 1845 for his experiments on the effects of magnetic fields on matter. Faraday (1791-1867) was able to show that all materials are affected by strong magnetic fields, being either attracted (paramagnetic) or repulsed (diamagnetic). This item is preserved as part of the Faraday laboratory and museum at the Royal Institution, London.
