The quantity, quality and variety of flowers were much better last week. As- ters are coming in quite abundantly, but the quality is not so good as it Was in former years. The outdoor gladioli are beginning to arrive and are selling rap- idly. The demand continues brisk, keep- ing the market in a healthy condition. There have been several good orders for funeral work. Various Notes. In the last two weeks there have been two heavy rain storms in the immediate vicinity of Milwaukee. In North Mil- waukee, Brown Deer and Fox Point no rains have occurred for over a month. These being among the city's chief flower-producing areas, the loss and in- convenience have been of considerable importance to those concerned. A well at the range of the Holton & Hunkel Co., at Brown Deer, which has pro- duced sufficient water for their needs for ten years, has been reduced to one-half capacity because of the drought. The deficiency is remedied by pumping water from a creek 1,000 feet from the green- houses. John McVeagh, of A. L. Bandall Co., Chicago, accompanied Kay Manning on his weekly trip to Milwaukee, July 22. His many business friends were glad to see him. Mr. McVeagh used to call on Milwaukee florists each week. Lillian Feeley, of the Gimbel staff, is vacationing for two weeks. Notice of the death of Patrick Cudahy, of the Cudahy Floral Co., ap- pears in this week's obituary column. A. H, M.
