Plum Island is a barrier island east of downtown Newburyport. The Merrimack River flows thru this area and out to sea on its eastern shore and joins the Atlantic Ocean. The marshes and salt pennes here are numerous and really define this area next to the sea. This is a view from inside Plum Island National Wildlife Refuge which runs along the ocean here. The marshes here are beautiful. Great summer resort location. Traffic is heavy.
