CHAPTER III. EXAMINATION OF THE UPPER RESPIRATORY TRACT. With the exception of the mouth, which may beexamined by means of direct illumination, the exam-ination of the upper respiratory tract must be made bymeans of light reflected from a mirror. The source of illumination may be sunlight or someform of artificial illumination. As sunlight is notalways available, artificial light is usually Mackenzie condenser. The naked flame of an Argand burner, using eithergas or oil, or, better, an Argand burner provided witha Mackenzie condenser (Fig. 5), is the most commonsource of illumination.
