Scenic mountain view with the winding road leading to Colle dell'Agnello Alpine pass in a sunny late summer day, Chianale, Cuneo, Piedmont, Italy

Colle dell'Agnello is a mountain pass in the Cottian Alps between France and Italy, which links the Queyras valley in the Hautes-Alpes with Pontechianale in the province of Cuneo, Piedmont. At 2,744 m (9,003 ft), it is the third highest paved road pass of the Alps: the climb starts at the town of Chianale, the last inhabited village of the Varaita Valley and, after a relatively easy stretch, the last eight kilometres show an average gradient of 11% with much higher peaks. The severe and desolate environment, dominated by the Monviso mountain to the east, makes it one of the harshest alpine roads with a track that often skirts both cliffs and bare rock walls.
