No city has built hotels faster than Minneapolis. There are nownine hostelries, capable of accommodating comfortably 2,300 guests^and this capacity can be largely increased upon any special finest hotel is the West, with its four hundred perfectly furnishedrooms and places for one thousand guests. The West has maintainedthe plane of excellence with which it was started. Everything is first-class. It is one of theinteresting places of the city, and its promenades and parlors are the favorite center offashionable receptions and balls. TheWindsor Hotel has been enlarged, until it now has one hundred and forty-four rooms, and is thethird largest in the city. It is first-class in every respect, and is of the class ranging next to the Westand Nicollet. The St. James Hotel has been made a very attractive house. It does an entirelytransient business. The number of the rooms is sixty-four, but the accommodations are ample for alarger number. The National Hotel is of about the same size as the St. James. The old Clark House,now the Brunswick, has been modernized, and is a good house of its class. The opening of familyhotels has been a feature in Minneapolis in the last few years.
