germinating papaya seed in water

After removing the outer jelly-like sac (aril) that surrounds a papaya seed, drop them into a glass of tepid water. Those that float can be discarded. Leave for several days until you see the seeds germinating. The seeds in these images took 7 or 8 days. Gently remove those that have germinated and pot up into decent potting compost. Seeds can also be sown after soaking them in an aqueous solution of potassium nitrate (KNO3).
