It has, nev-ertheless, resisted the eiforts of more than one mischievous party. The hotel is situated in the notch formed by the junction of thepeaks, about midway between their bases and summits, and trav-elers starting from this point have to ascend not more than twothousand or twenty-five hundred feet. To persons unaccustomedto such exercise this is no trifling undertaking, and horses are fre-quently in requisition to perform a part of the journey. Ourfriends, however, fresh from the Alleghanies, and vigorous fromfour weeks previous travel, scorned all extraneous assistance, andstarted from the hotel on SOUTH PEAK OF OTTEB, FROM THE HOTEL. 216 POKTE CEAYON AND HIS COUSINS.
