1944 Polikarpov PO2 at The Shuttleworth Collection VE Day Airshow, Old Warden Aerodrome, May 3rd 2015

The Polikarpov PO2 was a Soviet biplane produced from 1928 to 1959, probably the longest production run of any biplane in the world. Used as a stretcher carrying aircraft, trainer, reconnaissance plane, liaison night bomber and skirmish aircraft it's chief strength was both it's simplicity and lack of performance - flying so slowly that enemy fighter aircraft such as the Focke-Wulf 190 and Messerschmidt 109 would overshoot if they tried to get close enough to shoot it down
