Cave water scorpion and prey. Close-up of a Nepa sp. 'water scorpion' attacking an aquatic crustacean. Both these species are found only in the Movile Cave, Romania, where life has been cut off from the outside world for the past million years. They have evolved in total darkness over that time and have lost their eyes as a result. The water scorpion feeds by planting its sharp mouthpart into its prey and sucking out its innards.
